Move to California

Well, we did it... we left Vancouver for a new chapter in our lives in sunny California! Richard took a new job with BlackRock in San Francisco and we are living in Walnut Creek, just outside the city. We spent a month in the city in corporate housing and although being downtown had it's upsides, we are happy to be out of that 2 bedroom apartment! The city is cold and foggy - yuck, and so noisy!
Our move to Walnut Creek was less than stellar. We were greeted by hungry fleas when we arrived and discovered some of the appliances weren't working! Despite our woes, we are happy to be here and enjoying every moment so far. I am really enjoying my time at home with Lexi, and we found out she will be having a baby brother in January. I've joined a mom's group and enrolled Lexi in art classes and Gymboree which keeps her busy :)
Daddy just put together a playhouse in the back yard, and Lexi is loving it... and Rich is enjoying the basketball hoop. Much to everyone's disbelief, Rich really can get the ball in the hoop.
The weather here is awesome - sunny and warm everyday so far. I am going to have to take a picture the first time it rains... it took me a while to realize I didn't have to carry an umbrella in my purse!

Hawaii to Whistler within a month!

Last month we had a super trip to Hawaii and Lexi loved playing with the sand! She even tried to eat it... yum yum! The humidity really brought out the curls in her hair... it's still to early to tell what her hair will be like but my guess is she got mommy's hair!
We just got back from a trip to Whistler and it was really really really cold. We bundled Lexi up in about 10 layers before taking her out and it was so funny because she was completely immobile... all she could do was blink lol! We can't wait to put her in ski school in a couple of years... for now just mom and dad will be enjoying the slopes :)

Water Baby

Next week Alexis will graduate from her Waterbabies I class at the Canada Games Pool. It has been a learning experience for all of us, and a ton of fun! There have been no tears since we started at the beginning of the month so we are thankful for that!

Today, we started passing Alexis from Mommy to Daddy underwater. In the process, she was floating on her own for a fraction of a second - pretty cool! We also put goggles on and watched as she was submerged underwater which was really neat. Her eyes and mouth were wide open... it looks so funny! We are hoping to get an underwater picture next time. We do have a video that grandma took of her first dunk under water a couple of weeks ago. We'll be posting it soon :)

Plane Ride!

So we survived our first trip on the plane with little Lexi! Air Canada was super (except for the crabby staff in Medicine Hat) and we even got a free seat on the way back since the plane wasn't full. Baby Mum Mums kept Lexi occupied while mummy watched Spaced on the video screen. Sweet! Plus daddy was there to entertain too!
There was a baby behind us that cried almost the whole way and I felt sorry for those parents. They also had a toddler that Lexi could see between the gap in the seats and she kept smiling and laughing at him! It was sooooooo cute! She is such a social girl... loves other little kids (and kitties!)

Tummy Sleeper!

After sleeping on her back for almost 6 months, it looks like Alexis has decided that her tummy is the pace she wants to be! For two nights in a row now she has rolled onto her tummy and stayed there for the night. This is the baby who use to hate tummy time!
It really is cute how she falls asleep now. It usually involves: binky in mouth, cuddle with stuffed bunny and roll around for a few minutes until a comfy position is had. Often times binky is out and when I look at the monitor she has grabbed it and popped it back in her mouth. So much better than me running up the stairs to pop it back in for her!

Finally rolling both ways consistently

Alexis first started rolling from her tummy to her back when she was 9 weeks old. She hated being on her tummy so it was her way of getting out of tummy time! Then just before 4 months, she started rolling back to tummy, but guess what - she forgot how to roll back!!! So every time I put her down, she would promptly roll to her tummy, get stuck and start freaking out. When this started happening in the crib at nap time it was NOT cool! Anyway, I am super excited because today she remembered how to roll back and is now rolling both ways as she pleases. Less freak outs for Mom and Dad!

Tummy seems better

So far so good with the Bio Gaia! Alexis hasn't had any crying fits from gas lately so we are going to keep using the Bio Gaia and see how it goes. She has been spitting up a bit more lately but we are hoping that will improve over the next few days. Today Alexis tried carrots for the first time and she loved them! They were pretty much all over her by the time she was finished eating... lol.
